The Planning Factory - Merchandise Planning Specialists

In this section you can access The Planning Factory's merchandise planning resources.

We have built up a body of knowledge and experience over the last 20 years and our mission is to spread awareness of the benefits that effective Merchandise Planning can provide.

On this site you can freely access a large number of articles on merchandise, range and assortment planning.

There is also information about how to join the merchandise planning forum that we started 10 years ago and which has over 300 members world-wide.

Our long term aim is to create a global Merchandise Planning community based around our education programmes.

We have always championed the concept of low cost merchandise planning applications by using a toolkit approach.

We are now taking that a step further as we are working on developing the world's first open source merchandise planning application based on the Jedox Palo multidimensional database

Using this approach it will be possible to have an entire software stack of open source (free) software using Linux, Palo, Impact Planner (OS) and Open Office. Of course you can still use other products like Windows, Cognos TM1, and Excel in the stack if you prefer.

In this way we hope to radically alter the current market structure where, because of the high cost of entry, effective merchandise planning systems have previously been limited to the larger multiple retailers.
